CNC Machinist


Machinists are responsible for operating the machines in their area and for ensuring quality, troubleshooting, and achieving production goals.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Able to understand blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, and tolerances of finished workpiece. Understands sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Ability to Set-up or operate 5-axis CNC mills and lathes for aerospace parts.
  • Operate and understand measuring instruments, such as height gages, micrometers, and calipers.
  • Set-up CNC Mill tooling and cutting tools.
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, and lathes.
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
  • Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications using various measuring tools such as: calipers, micrometers, and depth micrometers. Familiarity with CMM, GD&T, and SPC preferred.
  • Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
  • Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining problems.
  • Complete the necessary paperwork and computer entry steps.
  • Complete light Deburring, buffing, or polishing of some parts as required.
  • Always comply with foreign object prevention techniques when working on the product.
  • Stay current and proficient with all applicable quality processes associated with assigned work.
  • Clean and maintain work area.
  • Participate in continuous improvement programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements (Education & Experience):

 

  • 5+ years working with CNC mills and lathes in a Manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Manual Mill & Lathe experience preferred.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics. (GD&T)
  • Manual dexterity required for operating machinery and computers.
  • Interpersonal skills – able to work well with and motivate/teach others.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with all levels of the organization.
  • Must be able to multi-task as required.
